wadda ya mean by "corporate"

foreals thoughh.

my vis 2 professor was left speechless the other day
when asked this question after labeling improvEverywhere's
work (ex. frozen grand central station) as dumb, boring,
and "too corporate."

it got me to thinking,
what's wrong with corporate?
it almost seems like popular stuff has its own following
of haters...even in music.

i'll be listening to some band or artist i really like and
someone out of the blue will almost always blurt out
"oh yea, haha, i used to like this band...but then they
went "mainstream"...their stuff sucks noww."
uhh.hellooo! sounds the same to meeee.

but hey, i get it, some things do go bad after they've
been taken over by the media and shaped and molded
to fit to their tastes and projected desires, but you can't
just label something mainstream and corporate and automatically
dismiss it as not art or crappy music. trust me, there's wayy more
"underground, authentic" stuff that sucks some serious ballz.

so next time you're tempted to hate on something you think
is just toooo popular, check yo self.

your comment might just be a bit too mainstream...//
