chains

honestly, i really do believe that the chains that hold us down,
that cause us to worry,
that keep us up at night,
that won't allow us to think or see straight,
that cause us to lose hope in life,
that cause us to doubt ourselves,
others, God...
that make us ignore the truth...
that blind us to justice...
make us sponges absorbed in ourselves-
self-centered images of success...
these chains,
are self created.
conceptualized within the bounds of our own psyche.
we create the fears we fear
we make our own hearts beat to the beat of hate and ignorance
we make ourselves believe in failure
in despair.
we are objects of our own disappointment and depression.
though we are created we make ourselves
who we are
what we become
hope, dream, wish, fight for, believe in.
just as we are held down by the frailty
and weakness of ourselves
our shortcomings and mistakes
we are impowered by the passion of our lives
the hope of eternity
the undying, unquenchable fire of life that burns
deep down within each and every one of us.
we are human.
we are alive.
with each and every breath we continue a miracle
with each and every action we spark hope
with each and every decision we create life
for in this life,
there is more.
more than just deadlines, unfulfilled dreams,
and perfection that will never last.
more than that girl that sits next to you in class
or that kid who flips you off on the highway.
more than the robotic movements of the trained masses
we are more.
we are beautiful.
yet, knowledge of this fact is nothing.
it is nothing without action.
